FAQ
- What is this site about?
The freedivingspots.net website is designed to be the online resource on places to freedive around the world. Anyone can contribute a location and make contact with other freedivers.
- So what's freediving?
Freediving, or breath-hold diving, is the sport where one makes a dive on a single breath. For some people it's the fun to dive as deep as possible, for others to swim as far as possible, to hunt for fish or just enjoy the scenery or the water.
- Can anyone learn how to freedive?
Yes, anyone who is in reasonable good health can learn to freedive, but .... don't start inventing things yourself!!!! learn how to freedive from qualified instructors and never freedive alone!!!
There are several organisations that can teach you how to freedive like AIDA, S.A.F.E.R., F.R.E.E., IANTD, IAFD
- Is freediving dangerous then?
Without the proper instruction or when practicing freediving without a buddy it could get you killed.
- How do I find a buddy?
Have look at the Divers list to see who is freediving in your country
- Is use of the site for free
Yep. Zero, nada, zilch contribution fees or cost whatsoever. This site is intended to be a community for all freedivers around the world, anyone should be able to join. My company is sponsoring the development and hosting of it.
- What can I do on this site?
You can add your favourite freedive locations to the database or search for spots around the world. Furthermore you can register your self as a freediver and tell others at which locations you dive. You can also try to find a buddy in your neigbourhood by searching for locations in your country and see who's diving there.
- Do I need to register?
No, for basic use like searching or adding a site, you can be completely anonymous. If you want to use the advanced features you will need to create your own login name.
- Will my information be safe?
Anything you enter into the database is viewable by the entire world. So don't put stuff in there you want to keep private. We won't sell or give away the information in the database to anyone or anything.
- What software do I need to use the site?
A recent webbrowser like Microsoft Internet Explorer will do. The site has been developed using version 6 of IE, so it will probably look best when you view it with that browser.
- How did you get the idea for this site?
www.freedivingspots.com sparked the idea behind freedivingspots.net, I just wanted to do some things differently. The maps are borrowed from www.worldatlas.com
- Where do I report bugs?
If you find something lacking or not working, please tell us at info@freedivingspots.net
- My personal best is not correct. I've entered something differen!
The database behind this website stores all values using the metric system (meters/celsius). So feet will be converted to meters before storing them.
When showing these values in the imperial system (feet/fahrenheit) a conversion is done again from meters to feet. This will result in a slightly different
value than you could have entered in feet. If you want to be precise, calculate your personal best in meters, switch to metric in the user interface and update
your profile in meters. Than switch back to imperial.
